URGENT MESSAGE
 FROM COUNCIL MEMBER MIGUEL MARTINEZ

Closure of Public School 128 in Washington Heights

Council Member Miguel Martinez's Office joined the Principal and staff of Public School 128 (Audubon Public School) today in Washington Heights in informing students and parents that the school will be closed until June 1, 2009 as a precaution to the H1N1 virus. The closure of the school was determned based on an excessive number of students absent due to flu-like symptoms and fever. No H1N1 cases have been confirmed at the school. The New York City Department of Education recommends that parents with concerns should contact the school directly.

"Our Office is working closely with the New York City Department of Education and P.S. 128 to ensure all parents are well informed of the situation. P.S. 128 is scheduled to re-open on June 1, 2009," Said Council Member Miguel Martinez.

For more information on these efforts contact our District Office at (917)-521-2616

URGENT MESSAGE
 FROM COUNCIL MEMBER MIGUEL MARTINEZ

Dear Neighbors,

On April 20th, 2009 you received a notification in the mail from the United States Postal Services informing you that effective Friday, June 26th, 2009 the Sgt. Riayan A. Tejeda Post Office located at 555 W. 180th St. will be closed.

It is irresponsible and unacceptable for the U.S. Postal Services to state that they weren’t able to renegotiate a lease agreement with the building owner. The U.S. Postal Services should have negotiated a new lease in advance of their current lease expiring and if not they should of planned for an alternative site in the immediate area to avoid interruption in postal services.  It is unacceptable that the U.S. Postal Services would contemplate treating the members of the community as second class citizens by proposing:

A. Locating a mobile postal unit that will temporarily provide retail services only and

B. Instruct residents/ postal users to travel almost a mile to the next available post office.

I ask you to join me in demanding that the U.S. Postal Services continue to negotiate the lease with the current owner to keep full postal services available at the Riayan A. Tejeda Postal Office by:

  • Fill out and return to my office the attached petition asking that the U.S. Postal Services keep Riayan A. Tejeda Postal Office open.  The petition must be returned to my district office at 601 West 174 Street, NY NY 10033 or via email at saveourpostaloffice@gmail.com

  • Join me on May 3, 2009 at 2:00PM at a press conference along with our Federal Representative and other local elected officials calling on the U.S. Postal Services to negotiate a lease agreement for this postal office site.

In Unity,

Miguel Martinez
Council Member, 10th District

MENSAJE URGENTE
DEL MIEMBRO DEL CONCEJO MIGUEL MARTINEZ

Estimados  Vecinos,

Miguel Martinez
Council Member, 10th District
