The 1st Legal Clinic in Washington Heights Organized and Hosted by Councilmember Miguel Martinez on March 19th, 2009 was a great success. The Clinic was well attended by a vibrant group of 70+ people from Washington Heights.
The event was moderated and Translated by Councilmember Martinez. This created a very nice rapport with his constituents. The residents were involved, and filled the room at Broadway Temple. Overall a Great Presentation by Councilmember Martinez, and very Professional Aides/Staff.
On the agenda were prominent issues relating to Tenants in the NYC / Washington Heights area. The topics of Succession Rights, Illegal Evictions, and the new Anti-Landlord Harassment Law. these topics were presented by a panel of Lawyers from the following organizations. The Legal Aid Society, The Urban Justice Center, Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation.
A Very informative presentation by the Panel who also took in a Q and A session at the end. Many residents recieved information and guidance on how to handle and solve issues with their landlords and building managements.
